Sadiq Khan secures the record-breaking third term as mayor of London

Pakistani nationality According to BBC coverage on Saturday, British candidate Sadiq Khan won the London mayor’s race for a record-breaking third time as the Labour Party dominated the polls.

The final results for the London mayoral constituency of Lambeth & Southwark revealed that Khan had defeated Conservative Susan Hall with 106,861 votes, making his victory official.

Following Khan’s resounding victory over his closest opponent, Sir Keir Starmer’s party proceeded to tally gains in a battle dominated by accusations of his decision to expand London’s ultra low emission zone.

Prior to the announcement of results, Keir had shown his confidence in Khan’s triumph by tallying the mayoral victories for his party in Liverpool, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, and Greater Manchester, where Andy Burnham made a comeback to leadership.

“Fourteen years and, I am sorry, I don’t care which political party you support, if you leave your country in a worse state than when you found it 14 years later, you do not deserve to be in government for a moment longer,” Sir Keir said, posing a new challenge to the prime minister to call for an election.

Before the most recent election, the mayoral race’s rules were changed to a first-past-the-post voting system, meaning Khan needed to win with a simple majority of the votes cast.
