Pakistan Launches Crackdown on Sugar Hoarders
The government has decided to take strong action to control sugar prices and make sure there is enough supply for everyone.
This decision was made in a high-level meeting. Officials said they will not allow sugar prices to rise unfairly, and anyone selling sugar at high prices or hiding it to create a shortage will be punished.
Sources say there will be a major crackdown on those who hoard sugar or try to manipulate prices. This is to protect consumers and keep the market stable.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved a full-scale plan to stop the artificial increase in sugar prices.
Important government departments like the FIA, the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the FBR, the State Bank of Pakistan, and others have been given full power to act. They will take steps like raids, arrests, and strict punishments.
These agencies have been ordered to take action against anyone involved in hoarding sugar, raising prices on purpose, or forming groups to control the market.
Big actions have already started, and more are expected soon.
Earlier, the government had allowed sugar to be exported after getting promises that prices in the country would stay stable.
On March 14, Prime Minister Shehbaz noticed the rising sugar prices and ordered this crackdown. The decision came during a meeting he led to review sugar supply and prices across the country.
