Pakistan US Seafood Export Boost
Pakistan Secures US Approval for Seafood Exports, Eyes $600 Million Market
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has received a major boost in its seafood sector after securing a U.S. permit that recognizes the country’s fisheries meet international quality standards. The approval ensures that Pakistani seafood can continue to flow uninterrupted to one of the world’s most significant markets.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Chaudhry Muhammad Akram, described the permit as a milestone, highlighting that it reflects global confidence in Pakistan’s seafood quality. “This is a proud moment for Pakistan, as our fisheries have proven their ability to meet global quality requirements,” he said.
Last year, Pakistan exported 242,000 tons of fish, generating $489 million in foreign exchange. With the U.S. market now open for the next four years, the country expects exports to grow, projecting earnings of up to $600 million in the coming year.
Chaudhry emphasized that U.S. approval will not only provide stability to seafood exports but also strengthen Pakistan’s international credibility and create fresh opportunities for the fishing community.
In related economic news, Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb hinted at major U.S. investments in Pakistan following successful trade discussions. Speaking informally after his return from the United States, Aurangzeb said Pakistan is poised to receive substantial investment across multiple sectors.
The minister described the trade talks as highly successful, noting that Pakistan’s progress and achievements in key meetings were well-received by the U.S. administration. He stressed the importance of long-term decisions that can further strengthen the economy and expressed optimism about the outcomes of these negotiations.
