PIA Cuts Losses, Makes Big Profit in 2024
KARACHI – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has shared good news in its latest audit report. The national airline made a profit of Rs 51.74 billion in 2024, which is 42.9% more than last year.
In 2023, PIA made a profit of Rs 36.2 billion. At the same time, the airline reduced its losses by 82%. Losses dropped from Rs 87.26 billion in 2023 to just Rs 15.35 billion in 2024.
However, PIA’s total revenue fell by 7.68%. It went down from Rs 259.59 billion in 2023 to Rs 239.65 billion in 2024.
The financial progress is mostly because PIA cut its expenses by 15.88%, especially due to a 22.92% drop in jet fuel costs and other services. In 2024, the total expenses were Rs 187.92 billion.
Still, there was a 36.62% increase in administrative costs, which rose to Rs 25.75 billion.
PIA Starts Cadet Pilot Program to Hire New Pilots
PIA has also launched a Cadet Pilot Program to deal with a shortage of cockpit crew. The airline will recruit 24 new pilots on a two-year contract.
To apply, candidates must have:
At least 200 flying hours
A valid Commercial Pilot License (CPL) from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
They also need to submit a $15,000 bond to show commitment to PIA’s rules.
PIA is also hiring 20 experienced commercial pilots to meet urgent needs. Applicants must submit their applications to the HR department within 15 days of the job posting.
This comes as the airline works to restart international routes, especially in Europe and the UK.
Earlier, PIA had received nearly 300 applications for First Officer jobs, showing growing interest in pilot careers in Pakistan.
