PM Stresses Unified Response to Climate Change, Praises LESCO Staff for Flood Relief Donation
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized that the development of water reservoirs will be carried out in full coordination with provincial governments. “Climate change is a reality, and only through effective preparedness can we minimize the damage caused by natural disasters,” he said.
Highlighting the need for collective action, the Prime Minister called on the provinces, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the federal government to work together to protect the population from the impacts of climate change, describing it as a national issue that demands a unified response.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, work is already underway under his directives to draft a policy addressing timely responses to climate change and monsoon-related challenges. The draft policy will be shared with all provincial governments to ensure a coordinated approach.
The statement added that once the current emergency subsides, the Prime Minister will hold a high-level meeting with the Chief Ministers of all four provinces, as well as the heads of relevant institutions. The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir and the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan will also be invited to participate.
In a separate development, the Prime Minister praised employees of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) for donating a day’s salary—totaling Rs20 million—to support flood victims. He called the gesture commendable and exemplary, reflecting a strong spirit of solidarity in times of national hardship.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, PM Shehbaz Sharif assured that authorities are working with all available resources to support those affected by floods across the country.
