PM Shehbaz Expands Negotiation Team, Vows to Personally Oversee Resolution of AJK Protests
Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the expansion of the government’s negotiation committee and promised to personally supervise efforts to resolve the ongoing unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
In a statement, the prime minister underlined that peaceful protest is a constitutional right, urging demonstrators to maintain public order and avoid actions that could disturb peace. He also directed law enforcement agencies to exercise restraint, respect public sentiments, and avoid unnecessary harsh measures.
Expressing concern over the recent incidents during the protests, the prime minister ordered a transparent investigation and immediate support for the affected families.
To facilitate a peaceful resolution, the prime minister added federal ministers Sardar Yusuf and Ahsan Iqbal, Senator Rana Sanaullah, former AJK President Masood Khan, and Qamar Zaman Kaira to the negotiation committee.
He instructed the committee to immediately visit Muzaffarabad to work on a swift and lasting solution. Prime Minister Shehbaz further emphasized that he would personally monitor the negotiations upon his return to the country.
The prime minister also appealed to the members and leadership of the Action Committee to cooperate fully with the government’s team and directed the committee to submit recommendations directly to the Prime Minister’s Office for a timely resolution of the crisis.
