PTA has lifted the ban on TikTok in Pakistan on last warning

The Pakistani government has “conditionally” lifted its ban on TikTok which was issued earlier this month. It happened after platform agreed to moderate its content in accordance with “societal norms and laws of Pakistan” on last warning.

PTA said in a statement that the app is unblocked after a ban for failing to filter “immoral and indecent” content. PTA said in a press release that TikTok’s senior management promised to block users who constantly upload content that is unlawful. The PTA has threatened to permanently ban TikTok if it fails to follow the rules.

PTA made a tweet on their Twitter account saying:

TikTok is being unlocked after assurance from management that they will block all accounts repeatedly involved in spreading obscenity and immorality.
TikTok will moderate the account in accordance with local laws.

Final Warning:

In July, Pakistani telecom regulator issued a “final warning” to TikTok. Pakistan’s neighbor India also banned TikTok. TikTok faces a similar threat in the U.S. as the Trump administration claimed that it was sharing its user data with the Chinese government. The company has denied the statement though.

Commitment of TikTok:

According to an earlier report, company made a commitment in a meeting with PTA officials. After the meeting. regulator unbanned the application.

TikTok had on Saturday expressed disappointment that its users in Pakistan were still unable to access the video-sharing platform. Despite the company’s efforts to engage with the country’s telecom regulator, they were still banned.

According to a TikTok spokesperson, they kept engaging with PTA to ensure its commitment to follow the local laws. After their commitments, PTA unbanned TikTok.
