Punjab Launches E-Taxi Scheme with Interest-Free Installments
Lahore – The Punjab government has announced the launch of its long-awaited E-Taxi Scheme, a project designed to promote clean transportation and create employment opportunities throughout the province.
The key feature of the initiative is interest-free installment plans, making it easier for drivers to own electric taxis. The scheme will roll out in phases, with the first batch of 1,100 e-taxis set to be handed over to selected drivers later this year.
Officials said the program is expected to modernize the taxi industry, particularly in urban centers, while also providing a sustainable source of income for young and unemployed residents.
Cars Offered Under the Scheme
Vehicles to be provided include the Honri Ve 2.0, Dongfeng Box, and other models. Each taxi will come equipped with GPS systems, smart meters, and official e-taxi branding to ensure safety, transparency, and reliability for passengers.
Eligibility and Application Process
The scheme is open to all residents of Punjab aged 18 and above who hold a valid driving license and have a clean banking record. Both men and women are eligible to apply.

Balloting & verification: November 2025
Distribution of taxis: From December 2025
Installment Plan Details
Estimated Price: Rs6–6.5 million
Down Payment (30%): Rs1.8–2 million
Bank Financing (70%): Around Rs4.5 million
Monthly Installment: Approx. Rs60,000
Officials said the scheme is designed not only to reduce pollution but also to encourage drivers to shift to eco-friendly transportation.
