Ravi Floods Hit Lahore Families on Motorway
Floodwaters From the Ravi River Submerge Lahore Neighborhoods, and Families Take Shelter on the Motorway
Lahore – Floodwaters from the Ravi River have entered nearby settlements, submerging several parts of the city, including Badru Pind, Talluq Pura, Mehna Wal, Chuhng, and the Theme Park area.
Many families were forced to leave their homes and have taken shelter along the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway. From Thokar Niaz Baig onwards, floodwater has spread across most residential areas beneath the motorway.
Displaced residents said they carried whatever belongings they could manage before seeking refuge on higher ground. “We had no choice but to move to the motorway with our children and possessions,” one resident told reporters.
Earlier, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) for introducing thermal drone technology to assist in flood rescues. With much of Punjab under CCTV surveillance, thermal drones have been deployed to locate stranded people and livestock in flood-hit districts, including Sialkot, Sargodha, Gujrat, and Jhang.
According to officials, the initiative has already supported over 800 successful rescue operations, allowing timely evacuation and relief for affected communities. CM Maryam Nawaz also commended the PSCA team in a Facebook post, appreciating their efforts in saving lives during the crisis.
