Pakistan Army Sentences Retired Lt. Colonel Akbar Hussain to 14 Years for Inciting Sedition

A retired Lieutenant Colonel Akbar Hussain has been convicted and sentenced by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, for inciting sedition among army personnel, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The court found him guilty on May 10, 2024 and sentenced him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment. His rank was forfeited on July 26, 2024.

Earlier, Ex-Major Adil Farooq Raja and Ex-Captain Haider Raza Mehdi were also convicted by FGCM under the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, for similar charges of inciting sedition and violating the Official Secrets Act, 1923, related to espionage and acts prejudicial to the state’s safety and interests.

Adil Farooq Raja and Haider Raza Mehdi were found guilty on October 7 and 9, 2023, respectively. They received sentences of 14 and 12 years of rigorous imprisonment, with their ranks forfeited effective November 21, 2023
