Russia Condemns Israeli Strike on Qatar
Russia Slams Israeli Strike on Qatar, Warns of Middle East Escalation
MOSCOW – Russia has strongly condemned Israel’s recent strike on Qatar, calling it a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry described the attack as an “encroachment on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of an independent state” and warned it could fuel further instability in the Middle East.
“Such methods of targeting those Israel considers its enemies and opponents deserve the strongest condemnation,” the ministry said.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed concern, saying he was “very unhappy about every aspect” of the Israeli strike and promised to issue a full statement later in the day.
Russia further stressed that “the rocket attack on Qatar cannot be perceived as anything other than an attempt to undermine international efforts for a peaceful solution in the region.”
Following the strike, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a telephone conversation with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani. Lavrov described the attack as “a violation of international law and an unacceptable encroachment on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of friendly Qatar.”
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov also warned that Israel’s actions risk “further destabilisation in the Middle East.” The Qatari prime minister, in turn, welcomed Russia’s “clear and principled position” in support of Qatar’s sovereignty and independence.
