Saudi Arabia Enforces Rules on Unauthorized Weather Forecasts, Cracks Down on Law Violators

RIYADH – The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has tightened enforcement of regulations governing the sharing of weather information in Saudi Arabia.

NCM spokesperson Hussein Al Qahtani said the action falls under Article 9 of the executive regulations, which prohibit publishing or circulating weather forecasts without official authorization or a license from the centre.

While some violators faced financial penalties, Al Qahtani clarified that not everyone was fined. In certain cases, offenders were required to sign written pledges promising not to repeat the violations.

He stressed that the purpose of these measures is not to punish but to protect public safety, ensure the accuracy of weather updates, and maintain compliance with official guidelines.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior reported that over 22,000 violators of residency, labor, and border laws were arrested in just one week during nationwide security operations.

Between July 24 and July 30, joint field campaigns led to the arrest of 22,147 people across the Kingdom. The detainees included 13,835 for violating residency laws, 3,540 for breaking labor regulations, and 4,772 for breaching border security rules.

Authorities also detained 34 individuals attempting to leave Saudi Arabia illegally, while 1,816 others were caught trying to enter the Kingdom unlawfully, with 62% of them identified as Ethiopian nationals, 36% Yemeni, and 2% from other countries.
