Seahawks Win Dramatic Finish Over 49ers After Nick Bosa Fumble
Seahawks Edge 49ers in Thrilling Finish After Late Turnover
In a heart-stopping finish, the Seattle Seahawks’ defense came up big as Nick Bosa forced a fumble in the final minute, sealing a dramatic victory over the San Francisco 49ers. With the Seahawks driving to San Francisco’s 9-yard line, Bosa pushed tackle Abraham Lucas into quarterback Sam Darnold, stripping the ball and recovering it himself to clinch the win.
Earlier, tight end Brock Purdy connected with rookie Daniel Tonges, filling in for the injured George Kittle, for crucial plays on the deciding drive. Tonges, making his first career reception, capped the drive with a spectacular grab in the back-right corner of the end zone, out-jumping cornerback Riq Woolen.
Seattle’s Jason Myers had given the Seahawks a 10-7 lead with a 37-yard field goal with 3:24 left, breaking a tie that had stood since midway through the third quarter.
Purdy, who inked a $265 million extension in the offseason, finished 26 of 35 for 277 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Christian McCaffrey, despite battling a calf injury, rushed 22 times for 69 yards and caught nine passes for 73 yards. Wideout Ricky Pearsall led the 49ers in receiving with 108 yards on four catches.
For Seattle, Darnold made his first start of the season after joining as a free agent, going 16-of-23 for 150 yards. Jaxon Smith-Njigba recorded nine catches for 124 yards, keeping the Seahawks competitive throughout.
San Francisco drew first blood on their opening drive, marching 95 yards in 14 plays, with Kittle hauling in a 5-yard touchdown before leaving with a hamstring injury. Seattle responded with a 1-yard touchdown plunge from Zach Charbonnet.
The first half saw its share of near-misses, including a Jake Moody 27-yard attempt that hit the left upright. Seattle answered with Myers’ 48-yard field goal as time expired in the half, giving them a 10-7 edge.
The third quarter featured tight defensive play, with Purdy’s pass intercepted by Ernest Jones IV and Julian Love blocking Moody’s 36-yard kick. The 49ers eventually tied it at 10 with Moody’s 32-yard field goal, but could not stop the late-game heroics that handed the Seahawks the win.
