Serena Williams Staying in US for Tournaments
Serena Williams Confirms She’s Sticking to U.S. Tournaments for Now
Tennis legend Serena Williams, the seven-time Grand Slam champion, remains committed to her professional career but is choosing to stay closer to home for competitions.
The 45-year-old made a much-anticipated return to Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday evening, taking on Karolína Muchová. Despite a spirited effort, Williams fell 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. Fans, however, were thrilled to see the iconic star in action, even as questions linger about her future on the court.
When asked about playing overseas, Williams was candid about her limitations. “Are there any tournaments in the States? Can someone move a tournament here? I don’t know that I’m willing to travel that far at this stage in my career to go play,” she said.
Williams added that she loves competing and has been working hard to regain form, but acknowledged the reality of only having a few matches to shake off rust.
The former world No. 1 also revealed that she is not a fan of high-altitude competitions, ruling out a trip to Guadalajara next month. Playfully, she suggested that Melbourne might also be “kind of far,” hinting that she is unlikely to appear at the 2026 Australian Open.
For now, Williams seems content to focus on U.S.-based tournaments, much to the delight of her fans who still get to witness her remarkable talent firsthand.
