Sindh’s Literacy Drops Despite Rs4,000bn Education Spending
Miftah Ismail said in a press conference that Sindh’s literacy rate was 58% in 2008 but has now dropped slightly to 57.5% in 2025.
He said that during this time, 4,000 billion rupees were spent on education in Sindh. “Despite all this money, Sindh is falling behind in every area, especially education,” said the Awam Pakistan Party leader.
He added that in Sindh, three times more children drop out of school compared to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Miftah also said that many government schools in Sindh do not have electricity, clean drinking water, or proper washrooms. “About 40% of girls’ schools don’t even have toilets,” he claimed.
He accused the government of selling water instead of providing it to Karachi. He also criticized development projects, saying they are ruining the city. “Spend some money before it is lost to corruption,” Miftah warned the government.
