Sindh Braces for More Rain as Tropical Depression Forms in Arabian Sea
Karachi – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast scattered rainfall across several districts of Sindh today, including Umarkot, Thar Parkar, Badin, Sanghar, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad, Sujawal, Karachi, Thatta, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazir Abad, Larkana, Dadu, and Khairpur, as a weather system continues to influence the region.
The system, which originated over India’s Gujarat state, brought widespread rainfall to Karachi and other parts of Sindh on Tuesday. Karachi’s Old Airport area recorded the heaviest rainfall with 34mm, followed by PAF Faisal Base with 30mm, DHA with 27mm, Gulshan-e-Hadeed with 25mm, and Jinnah Terminal and Korangi with 21mm each. Other areas received lighter showers: Bahria Town 9mm, University Road and Keamari 8mm each, while Nazimabad, North Karachi, and Masroor Base saw 1mm each.
Elsewhere in Sindh, Sakrand received 41mm of rain, Padidan 29mm, Mirpur Khas 27mm, Hyderabad city 23mm, Hyderabad Airport and Tando Jam 6mm each, Dadu and Nawabshah 2mm each, and Thatta 1mm.
Tropical Depression in the Arabian Sea
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Oman and the Oman Met Office confirmed the formation of a tropical depression over the northeast Arabian Sea, near Gujarat, India.
Oman’s National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre reported that the depression is located at 22.5°N latitude and 68.8°E longitude, with wind speeds ranging from 37 to 50 km/h near its center. The system is expected to move westward toward the central Arabian Sea and may intensify over the next 48 hours, raising concerns for the coastal regions of the Arabian Peninsula and Sindh.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as residents in affected districts prepare for more rain in the coming days.
