Sounders 2-0 Galaxy Into Concacaf 2026
Sounders Dominate LA Galaxy, Secure Spot in 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup
SEATTLE – The Seattle Sounders cruised to a 2-0 win over reigning Major League Soccer champions LA Galaxy, extending their flawless run in the Leagues Cup. With five wins in as many games and a combined scoreline of 13-2, Seattle’s latest triumph earns them a place in the 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup.
Pedro de la Vega opened the scoring just seven minutes in, finishing a frantic sequence that began when Galaxy goalkeeper Novak Mićović spilled a shot from Osaze De Rosario. Later, in the 57th minute, De Rosario himself doubled the lead, powering past several Galaxy defenders to put the game out of reach.
LA Galaxy briefly had hope in the 83rd minute when Nouhou was shown a red card after a video review for a dangerous foul on Gabriel Pec. But the 2024 MLS Cup champions couldn’t turn the advantage into a goal and will now host Orlando City in the Third-Place Match on August 31.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi continued his magical run in the Leagues Cup with Inter Miami. Returning to the lineup, Messi scored twice in 10 minutes to overturn Orlando City’s 1-0 lead, securing a 3-1 victory and sending Miami into the final. He first converted a penalty in the 77th minute to equalize, then linked up with Jordi Alba to put his side ahead in the 88th. Telasco Segovia sealed the win in stoppage time.
Inter Miami, who captured the Leagues Cup in 2023 during Messi’s first MLS season, will now aim to defend their title in the final.
