Love you, King: Supporters of Babar Azam show their support for him as he steps down as captain

Famous batsman and cricketer Babar Azam has submitted his resignation as captain in the wake of Pakistan’s premature elimination from the Cricket World Cup. In an emotional Instagram post, Babar expressed the complexity of his choice while reaffirming his desire to play for Pakistan in all formats, writing, “It’s a difficult decision but I feel this is the right time for this call.” I will carry on playing in all three formats for Pakistan.”

“Over the past four years, I’ve experienced many highs and lows on and off the field, but I wholeheartedly and passionately aimed to maintain Pakistan’s pride and respect in the cricket world,” Babar said, reflecting on his tenure and recalling his entrance as Pakistan’s captain in 2019.

Fans enthusiastically embraced Babar’s decision, highlighting his significant influence on Pakistan’s cricket scene.

In line with the thoughts of a multitude of supporters, singer Asim Azhar tweeted his support for Babar, saying, “#thankyoubabarazam you gave your all as captain of Pakistan and we are proud of you.” I’m now praying for you and Pakistan to have many runs, victories, records, and milestones.

Fans expressed their enduring allegiance and adoration on social media in an outpouring of support that read, “We will always support you.” Love you, King,” a person commented. Another said, “It doesn’t matter; you lose the game, but you win our hearts.”

“Remaining focused on your game and maintaining your shine is the right decision, step down from the captaincy,” said one commenter. “May God grant you the ability to surpass all previous batsmen who have played for PCT. Always in your corner,” added another.

Zaka Ashraf had previously said, “Babar is truly a world-class player and we want him to continue to thrive as a player,” acknowledging Babar’s skill. He is among Pakistan’s all-time greatest batters.

Shan Masood has been named the Test captain by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the upcoming World Test Championship cycle, which runs from 2023 to 2025. Shaheen Afridi, a dynamic left-arm fast bowler, has taken charge of the T20 team and is preparing for the tough five-match T20 series that will take place in New Zealand following the Australian tour. The PCB is yet to reveal who will command the next ODI team.
