Mushtaq Ahmed was named the spin bowling coach for Bangladesh

Mushtaq Ahmed, a former Pakistani leg-spinner and World Cup champion, has been named as the new spin bowling coach by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday.

Mushtaq will train with the Tigers till the conclusion of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States. He will join the team prior to the preparatory camp later this month for the T20 series against Zimbabwe.

The 53-year-old has served as the spin bowling coach for England from 2008 to 2014, the West Indies from 2018 to 2019, and Pakistan from 2020 to 22. From 2014 to 2016, he was also the bowling consultant for the Pakistani side.

Mushtaq grabbed 161 wickets for Pakistan in 144 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 185 wickets in 52 Test matches at an average of 32.97.

He was crucial in helping Imran’s Tigers win the World Cup in 1992, and he will never forget snaring Graeme Hick with one of his googlies during the championship game.

Mushtaq Ahmed remarked in a statement issued by BCB, “It is a great honour for me to be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach.”

“I am excited for the position and want to share my knowledge with the players because I think they are one of the most dangerous teams in the league and they are very coachable.”

“They possess the capacity, the means, and the talent to defeat anybody. I’ll make an effort to impart that belief to them. “I am thrilled about the chance to collaborate with the group,” he said in closing.
