Top 7 Shoe Trends for Summer 2021

We all love a good pair of shoes, don’t we? Whether you’re a little girl in her tweens or teens or a lady in her sixties, an immaculate pair of shoes can surely turn your day around. But with the weather heating up and giving us a glimpse of what hellfires will feel like, we certainly tend to steer clear of anything and everything that confines and entraps our feet in it. Thanks to shoe companies who didn’t stop at just creating boots and calling it a day, we have a plethora of different kinds, cuts, heights and colours of shoes to choose from. I went into a little Instagram rabbit hole of everything related to fashion (and shoes) by scrolling through the feeds of IG models, international and Pakistani celebrities and influencers to see what they’re sporting on their feet. And boy, was I spellbound? Yeah, I absolutely was! Probably ordered a few pairs for myself. Sorry, not sorry.

Here’s a list of shoes that are trendy and will make you feel like an absolute fashionista this Summer 2021.

Khussa

Or jutti, as some people might refer to it, depending on where you belong. Khussas are my absolute favourite for how stunning and versatile they are. From plain leather to embroidered, embellished or hand-painted ones, there’s something for everyone. If you are a desi, chances are that you already own a pair in your closet. With a multitude of online retail stores selling these at bargain prices, you’ll surely find yourself a fit. They’re traditional enough to elevate your ethnic outfits and comfortable enough to slip your feet right in and go. Just be sure to choose the ones with cushioning on the inside for ease of wear throughout the day.

Kolhapuri Chappals

With celebrities like Sana Javed and Sara Ali Khan exhibiting these with chikankari dresses and even under skinny or rolled-up boyfriend jeans, we know that these shoes are absolute winners. They’re flat, have a really summery appearance and look unquestionably lovely. Be it plain brown, leather ones or embellished, decked up, fully embroidered ones, they elevate your casual look in a jiffy.

Wedges

Yes, this is a kind of heel that looks like it’s been cut in a wedge, which is exactly how it gets its name. A good wedge shoe is dressy enough to be worn on brunches and lunches or casual summer/barbecue parties and comfortable enough to be worn when picking your kids up from school. They look super cute when worn with rolled-up denim or even flowy summer dresses. An absolute winner!

Strappy Slip-On Sandals/Gladiators

Now, these are no-fuss, no-muss indispensable summer shoes that you certainly NEED in your life. Why? Well, because life happens. And it doesn’t make an announcement before it happens. You suddenly need to roll out of bed, plop some clothes on and be out the door. This is the perfect I-didn’t-try-that-hard kind of shoe for the days when you really don’t want to try that hard. Not even to bend down to buckle them up. Because they slide right on. Just like someone slides into your DM’s. Effortlessly, amirite?

Clear/Transparent Sandals

Remember the last time you got a professional pedicure done and all you wanted was to flaunt your feet? Well, this shoe does exactly that; lets you flaunt your feet by themselves taking the backseat. And since they are so neutral, you can pretty much wear them under anything that your heart desires. Really, the world is your oyster! Heels or flats or whatever.

Mola Shoe

Mola is a kind of tribal design that originated in South America. To this day, it has been really popular in the Panama and Columbia regions. Mola shoes are handcrafted, tribal, wearable art creations with spectacular designs incorporating an array of colours. In fact, many different designers now come up with their own collections of Mola motifs on a variety of different shoes. Puma and Nike, not too long ago, came out with Mola sneakers and whatnot. And why not? Their flamboyance scream summer in our ears!

Minimalistic Heels

It’s all about making your feet the hero of the show, this summer. With minimalism and hence, minimalistic fashion making rounds on the runways and the internet, plain strappy heels are where it’s at. It’s time to dump or at least lock your ultra-flashy, super-embellished stilettos in the closet and bring out your plain strappy ones. They look good under denim, dress pants or even summery lawn suits. Fool-proof, as we like to call it!
