Swat Flash Flood Kills 9 as Karachi Braces for More Rain
9 Dead After Flood in Swat River
Rescue teams have found 9 bodies, including 2 children, after a tragic flood in Fizagat, Swat.
The accident happened when two families were having breakfast near the river, and a sudden rise in water swept some of them away.
A shocking video of the incident is going viral. It shows women and children stuck in the water while people nearby watched helplessly.
Deputy Commissioner of Swat, Shahzad Mehboob, said that seven bodies were found at first, and at least 73 people got trapped by flash floods in different areas of Swat. He said rescue work is very difficult.
Eyewitnesses blamed local officials, saying that the people seen in the video were stuck for almost two hours, crying for help, but no one came to save them in time.
The victims were from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Rain and Thunderstorm Expected in Karachi
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has said that rain and thunderstorms are expected in Karachi starting today (June 27).
Rain will likely continue until Sunday, with heavier rain on Friday and Saturday.
The Met Office also said that the second phase of the monsoon will start on July 5, with more rain throughout July.
Right now, sea winds are not blowing in the city. On Thursday, Gulshan-e-Hadeed had the most rain (17 mm), followed by 13.4 mm on University Road and 12 mm at PAF Faisal Base.
Due to heavy rain, more than 340 K-Electric feeders stopped working, causing power outages in many areas of Karachi.
