In what locations does Google test the cameras on its phones?

Google, the tech giant, recently provided a rare look inside its exclusive testing facility, which it uses to fine-tune the cameras on its Pixel devices.

But this testing facility is not like any other.

According to CNET tech experts who visited Google’s Real World Testing Lab, the facility seems more like “a cluster of Ikea displays” than it does like massive calibration charts, industrial machinery, and workers in white lab coats.

This testing facility has a living room set-up, a little café that serves everything but food, and personnel that don’t wear white lab coats but rather retro Jordan sneakers.

The lab has a TV studio feel to it thanks to its lighting grid, which has lamps with programmable color temperature and intensity.

With realistic sets and lighting, engineers may generate a variety of test situations in the café from late evening to dawn.

“In real life, people take pictures in living rooms and coffee shops,” stated Google’s group product manager for Pixel Camera, Isaac Reynolds.

According to CNET, Reynolds and his colleagues emphasized that Google focus is not on scientific standards but rather on feel and precision, showing that their objective extends beyond video quality.

“It’s not always the case that the picture produced is the appropriate one. There’s always going to be a discrepancy between what the color chart may have indicated about a certain occasion and how you actually recall it. Additionally, a balance needs to be found there, according to Reynolds.
