Iran Denies Red Sea Attack Accusations Amidst Houthi Strikes

Targeting a chemical tanker owned by Japan on Saturday coincided with a barrage of missile and drone strikes in the Red Sea by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who are supported by Iran, in support of the Palestinians in Gaza, where Israel is engaged in combat with Hamas militants.

Later, the Pentagon publicly blamed Tehran for the attack.

When questioned about the US charges, foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani declared, “We declare these claims as completely rejected and worthless.”

Claims of this like are intended to deflect attention from the crimes committed by the Zionist dictatorship (Israel) in Gaza and to conceal the complete support of the US government for these crimes.

The health ministry in the coastal area controlled by Hamas reports that over 20,400 people, predominantly women and children, have died as a result of almost 11 weeks of Israeli air and military attacks on the Gaza Strip.

After Hamas carried out a cross-border strike on October 7 that killed some 1,140 people in Israel, largely civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli numbers, Israel has promised to annihilate the Palestinian organization.

Around 250 persons were also kidnapped by Palestinian fighters; according to Israel, 129 of them are still in Gaza.

Kanani also denounced as “threadbare” and “repetitive” recent statements made by UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron, in which he called Iran a “malign influence in the region and the world” and called for a “set of deterrent measures against” it.

The Islamic Republic has praised the October 7 assaults as a “success” and denied any direct involvement; it provides financial and military support to Hamas.
Major companies have decided to divert their cargo vessels around the southern tip of Africa, which is a significantly longer voyage with greater fuel costs, in response to recent attacks by Yemeni rebels on maritime vessels in the Red Sea.

Iran has consistently refuted claims made by the US and Israel that Tehran was complicit in the Houthi strikes, claiming the organization was operating independently.
