The strategies used by Pat Cummins to fire Babar Azam

The captain of Australia, Pat Cummins, talked about the crucial delivery that dismissed former Pakistan captain Babar Azam during the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Using a back-of-a-length delivery that swung inwards just outside off-stump, Cummins was able to get past Azam’s defenses and rattle the stumps. Cummins highlighted the rarity of successfully performing such deliveries, calling it a “dream ball.”

He explained that the in-swinging was accidental, blaming it on a 50/50 probability that the ball may seam in or out. To keep the batter guessing about the direction of the ball, Cummins made it clear that he intended to create an angle. He said that while it is tough to forecast seam movement, it adds an element of uncertainty for the batsman if he, the bowler, is unsure.

In addition, Cummins discussed his bowling philosophy in general, stating that he prefers to create seam movement off the wicket as opposed to depending just on swing. He clarified that because swing is more predictable, the batter has less margins for error and an early visual cue. Although he does occasionally use swing, his main objective is to extract movement from the seam by taking use of the pitch’s characteristics.

Babar Azam’s poor performance in the first Test in Perth and the current second Test highlighted his difficulties throughout the Australian tour. With stats of 3-37 for the day, Pat Cummins was a key component of Australia’s bowling assault, which helped Pakistan reach 194-6. The hosts were up by 124 runs after being bowled out for 318 earlier in the day.

With Aamir Jamal and Mohammed Rizwan at the wicket, Pakistan would begin their innings on the eve of the third day against an Australian side keen to extend their lead and keep control of the game.
