Tottenham to Sign Xavi Simons
Tottenham Close in on Dutch Star as Deadline Day Looms
Tottenham Hotspur appears set to land Dutch international Xavi Simons, with the Premier League club aiming to finalize the deal today, according to renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Both Spurs and Chelsea had been in the race to sign the midfielder as the transfer deadline drew near. Romano confirmed that Tottenham’s formal bid has been accepted, with the move receiving the green light after the player reportedly encouraged the switch. Medical checks and other formalities are expected to be completed today.
The signing would offer a significant boost to Spurs manager Thomas Frank, who has endured a frustrating transfer window. The club had previously targeted Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, but both moves fell through. Forest blocked Gibbs-White’s exit just before he signed a new contract, while Arsenal swooped in to secure Eze at the last moment.
If completed, Simons is set to become one of Tottenham’s top earners. Spurs have pursued the Dutch midfielder for some time, though there were doubts about their chances this summer, particularly with Chelsea also vying for his signature. Reports earlier suggested that Chelsea had agreed terms with Simons, offering a weekly wage in the region of £180,000–£200,000.
