Trump Hosts 2026 FIFA World Cup in Washington DC

Trump Welcomes World Cup 2026 to the Nation’s Capital

WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump called it a “tremendous honour” to bring the 2026 FIFA World Cup to Washington, D.C., during a ceremony at the Oval Office on Friday. Flanked by Vice President JD Vance, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristy Noem, Trump held the iconic World Cup trophy and spoke of the global significance of the event.

“It’s a tremendous honour to bring this global event and this incredible group of people and these unbelievable athletes – the best athletes in the world – to the cultural centre of our nation’s capital,” Trump said.

Infantino praised the move, telling Trump, “We are uniting the world, Mr. President, uniting the world, here in America, and we are very proud of that,” before allowing Trump to hold the trophy.

Trump also announced that the World Cup 2026 will establish its primary office at the Kennedy Center. The announcement comes as the former president oversees a $257 million renovation at the cultural landmark, which he said will serve as a centerpiece for the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations next year.

“We’re spending a lot of money, wisely, on making it really beautiful. It’s going to be beautiful again,” Trump added.

The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will expand to feature 48 teams competing in 104 matches. Canada is set to host 13 games, including 10 in the group stage, split between Toronto and Vancouver. Mexico will also host 13 matches, with group-stage games in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. The remaining games will take place across 11 U.S. cities.

FIFA has already begun preparations on U.S. soil, setting up field offices in Miami and at New York’s Trump Tower in advance of the international tournament.
