Trump Pushes Hamas on Ceasefire Deal
Trump Presses Hamas to Accept Ceasefire Deal After Israel Agrees
WASHINGTON — Former U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Hamas to accept his proposed ceasefire plan, saying Israel has already agreed to the terms.
“The Israelis have accepted my terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well,” Trump declared in a Truth Social post on Saturday. “This is my last warning; there will not be another one.”
According to Israel’s N12 News, Trump’s proposal includes the release of all 48 remaining hostages held in Gaza on the first day of a truce. In return, Israel would free thousands of Palestinian prisoners. The deal also calls for negotiations to end the war during the ceasefire.
An Israeli official confirmed that the plan was being “seriously considered” but offered no further details.
A day earlier, Trump told reporters that Washington was in “very deep negotiations” with Hamas. He warned the militant group that holding onto hostages would make the situation “tough” and “nasty.”
“We said let them all out, right now let them all out. And much better things will happen for them,” Trump said. “But if you don’t, it’s going to be nasty.” He added that Hamas was “asking for some things that are fine,” without elaborating.
Hamas captured more than 250 hostages during its October 2023 attack on Israel, which killed around 1,200 people, according to Israeli figures. Since then, Israel’s military offensive in Gaza has killed tens of thousands, displaced nearly the entire population, and sparked accusations of genocide and war crimes at international courts.
Roughly 50 Israeli hostages remain in Gaza, though only about 20 are believed to still be alive. Hamas has previously indicated it could release some hostages under a temporary ceasefire, but Trump insists all hostages must be freed at once.
Trump, who campaigned on promises to quickly end the Gaza war, continues to face challenges in delivering a resolution.
