Trump, Netanyahu Endorse Gaza Peace Plan; Pakistan, Arab States Back Deal
Washington — Former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday that they are “beyond very close” to reaching a peace agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza.
Speaking at a joint press conference at the White House, Trump said Netanyahu has accepted a 20-point plan under which Israel will neither annex nor occupy the Palestinian territory. He urged Hamas to also agree to the framework, stressing that regional and international support is building.
Trump highlighted backing from neighboring countries, including Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. He also pointed out that Pakistan and Indonesia—two Muslim-majority nations that do not officially recognize Israel—are endorsing the proposal.
“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir back this 100 percent,” Trump declared.
Shortly after, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif publicly endorsed the plan in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). “I am convinced that durable peace between the Palestinian people and Israel is essential for political stability and economic growth in the region,” he wrote.
Shehbaz praised Trump’s “preparedness to assist in whatever way necessary” and lauded U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff’s role in brokering the talks. He also emphasized that a two-state solution remains key to achieving lasting peace.
Earlier in the day, Shehbaz told reporters that Trump’s meeting with leaders of eight Arab and Islamic countries in New York had been “encouraging” and could bring positive momentum for a Gaza ceasefire.
