Trump Health Update Vein Issue Found
Trump Diagnosed with Chronic Venous Insufficiency, White House Says He Remains in “Excellent Health”
WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump, 79, has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common and non-life-threatening condition, following concerns over his visibly swollen ankles and bruised right hand, according to a White House briefing.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt disclosed the diagnosis during a press conference, attributing the swelling in Trump’s lower legs to the condition, which affects blood flow in the veins. “Out of an abundance of caution,” Leavitt said, the president underwent an ultrasound after noticing mild swelling. Tests confirmed chronic venous insufficiency, which is especially prevalent in adults over 70.
Presidential physician Dr. Sean Barbabella confirmed Trump “remains in excellent health” and that the condition is not a cause for serious concern. There was “no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease,” Leavitt added.
Addressing the frequent online speculation about Trump’s discolored right hand, Leavitt explained it was a result of “tissue irritation from frequent handshaking” compounded by aspirin therapy, which is part of the president’s cardiovascular regimen. Aspirin is known to cause minor bruising, especially in older patients.
Trump, who often highlights his vitality and physical endurance, recently underwent a routine check-up and declared he was in “very good shape.” He has also been portrayed by his team in promotional materials as a strongman figure, including one image styled as Superman.
The announcement comes as speculation about the health of U.S. presidents remains intense, especially following the 2024 election in which Trump defeated Joe Biden, who was 82 when he left office. Biden had faced growing scrutiny over both physical and mental health, ultimately withdrawing his re-election bid after a widely criticized debate performance.
Dr. Matt Heinz, a physician from Arizona, told AFP that chronic venous insufficiency is “pretty common” in older adults, especially those who are overweight or sedentary. He noted the condition is typically treated with compression socks, increased mobility, and sometimes weight loss, rather than surgery or invasive treatments.
Despite public concerns, the White House emphasized transparency in sharing Trump’s medical condition and reaffirmed that there is no indication of heart failure, kidney problems, or other systemic illness.
Meanwhile, Trump has previously accused Democrats of hiding Biden’s health issues — and now finds his well-being under the microscope as the nation’s oldest-ever serving president.
