World Leaders Meet at UN to Address Gaza Crisis

New York – A high-level meeting convened at the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump brought together leaders from eight Muslim-majority countries, including Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to discuss the “catastrophic” situation in Gaza, devastated by ongoing conflict.

The meeting was co-hosted by President Trump and Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Attending leaders included King Abdullah of Jordan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

In a joint statement, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working with President Trump and emphasized the importance of his leadership in ending the war and promoting a just and lasting peace. They strongly opposed forced displacement in Gaza and stressed the need for the safe return of those displaced by the conflict.

The statement also highlighted the importance of stabilizing the region, including the West Bank and Jerusalem’s holy sites, while planning for post-conflict reconstruction.

Although the joint statement did not include President Trump’s remarks, POLITICO reported that he assured the leaders that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not be allowed to annex the West Bank, which remains under Palestinian Authority control. Sources said Trump presented a “white paper” detailing the U.S. administration’s plans for ending the war, including governance and security measures for postwar Gaza.

Ahead of the meeting, President Trump told reporters it was his “most important” engagement of the day. Turkish President Erdogan called the meeting “fruitful” in an interview with Fox News, though he did not provide further details. Erdogan and Trump are scheduled to meet again in Washington on Thursday.

The joint statement also stressed the need for a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza, aligned with Arab and OIC proposals, supported by international assistance, and committed to rebuilding the lives of Palestinians. Leaders highlighted the importance of maintaining momentum to ensure this meeting serves as a starting point for peace and regional cooperation.

Other attendees included Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrehman bin Jassim Al Thani, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelattay, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

President Trump’s delegation also featured Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steven Witkoff.
