Underage Driver Arrested After Deadly Crash in Punjab
According to the police, a young boy named Hashir, who was driving without a license, caused an accident because he was driving carelessly. He lost control of his car and hit three motorcycles. Hashir has been arrested and charged.
The case was filed by the brother of one of the victims, a 30-year-old man named Muhammad Amin, who died in the crash.
The head of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, took serious notice of the accident. He said he strongly disagrees with allowing underage kids to drive. He gave orders to take strict action against such drivers all across Punjab.
He also said parents of these underage drivers will face action too. He added that police will not tolerate speeding, carrying too many passengers, or driving the wrong way.
To help catch rule breakers, the police will now use Safe City cameras to monitor the roads and traffic violations.
It is important to mention that in 2023, the Lahore High Court said underage drivers should not be kept in police lockups. Judge Ali Zia Bajwa ruled that police should not file cases for driving without a license and should release underage drivers on bail.
The Lahore traffic police started a strict campaign against underage drivers after a serious accident in November 2023. That accident killed six members of one family, including two babies and two women.
