US Faces Global Criticism Over Iran Strikes
The United Nations Security Council met on Sunday to talk about the recent US attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites. During the meeting, Russia, China, and Pakistan asked for an immediate and complete stop to the fighting in the Middle East. They suggested a formal resolution for a ceasefire.
China’s UN Ambassador, Fu Cong, criticized the US attack and asked all sides, especially Israel, to agree to a ceasefire right away.
He said the US had broken international law. He also said that peace in the Middle East cannot be reached through war. Instead, countries should talk and try to solve the Iranian nuclear issue through peaceful discussions.
Russia’s UN Ambassador, Vassily Nebenzia, also called the US attack dangerous and careless. He said it put innocent lives at risk and could lead to more problems in other countries nearby. He added that the US has no legal right to carry out such attacks on its own.
On the other hand, Acting US Ambassador Dorothy Shea said it was time for the UN Security Council to pressure Iran. She claimed Iran was trying to destroy Israel and build nuclear weapons, and that this must be stopped.
