Four policemen martyred as JUI-F leader’s convoy attacked in Tank

PESHAWAR:

Unidentified armed men attacked the convoy of JUI-F leader and mayor of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district Saddam Hussain Betni, resulting in the martyrdom of four police personnel on Friday, officials said.

District Police Officer (DPO) Waqar Ahmed Khan said that two policemen were also injured during the attack. The martyred personnel were identified as Imran, Barkat, Fazlur Rehman and Rafi Ullah.

Police said that the bodies of the martyred personnel and the injured were rushed to DHQ hospital. They further said that the attack took place on the road between Pai and Durki villages.

JUI-F Amir Maulana Fazlur Rehman, while condemning the attack, expressed concern over the repeated attacks on the party leadership.

“If the lives of the people’s representatives are not safe, what will happen to common people,” he questioned, urging the authorities to bring the culprits to justice.

Fazl said that the law and order situation is being disturbed deliberately by targeting the JUI-F leadership. He also urged to provide immediate medical treatment to those who were injured during the attack.

Earlier this month, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had accepted responsibility for an attack on a police constable in Dera Ismail Khan, the killing of a police official in Lakki Marwat and an attack in Peshawar that had claimed the life of one security official and left three – including an SHO – injured. The attacks apparently came after the ceasefire ended about a month ago.

Earlier this month, IGP Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Moazam Jah Ansari had described the impression that militancy has found a firm foothold in the province as ‘baseless’.

He had said that K-P has been in the grip of terrorism for the past 20 years and the war is still ongoing. Nevertheless, the situation is not critical, he had stressed.
