Churails : What Pakistan doesnt talk about

churails

Asim Abbasi stepped forward and created a series, that was more on the opposite side of the current content that is on Pakistani media. Many people stated that Asim Abbasi out-did himself by creating this ‘masterpiece’.

Let’s do a reality check for a second, women have been called the root of all the evil, while men can get away with anything, being a male dominant society. If a woman gets kidnapped, they say,” She shouldn’t have stepped out of the house”, raped? “She dressed that way” and killed? ”She should’ve listened to her husband”.

With Churails, his latest web series, the auteur gets into the depths of how women are treated in our society and still expected to be the “best version of themselves.” Watching Churails would make one realize why it was chosen for a foreign streaming service and not for Pakistani broadcast television. All that exists within Pakistani society that is often avoided in television series is presented to viewers in Churails.

It follows the stories of four women – a rich homemaker, a wedding planner, a recently released convict, and a boxer – in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, as they fight the patriarchy and set up a detective service to help other women in need.

Churail’s Storyline

All the characters are presented with a story to tell. There are no restrictions in the story, which is something groundbreaking for a series coming from Pakistan, which often tries to limit its content creators through certain rules and regulations. The four main characters in churails have different stories but in one way or another, they have fallen prey to patriarchy.

Actress’s Views on ‘Churails’

Sarwat Gillani quoted,” Churails is about having a realization of what all you can do as a woman. It gives an understanding, insight, awareness, and complete realness of life through the characters and its story. The story is well written and fabulously directed by Asim Abbasi. He literally took our breath away with his work. It has been an amazing feeling to be part of the super revolutionary change that this project is going to bring. Churails, as a show, has a lot of calibers to catch eyeballs at the international level.”

Mehar Bano also talked about her view saying,” Playing Zubaida has been a personal milestone. She taught me the value of being a protector, the importance of sisterhood and she is, in essence, a fearless warrior who is so compassionate that seeing other women in jeopardy keeps her up at night.”

‘Churails’ plagiarism controversy

After a month of silence, Abbasi finally addressed the issue brought to light, claiming responsibility, and accepting the oversight on his part.

He further added to his tweet, saying, “I would also at this point like to clear the name of our animation creator, Studio Rokhan @rokhan_official of any wrongdoing. Due to an oversight by the production house, the animation studio was provided the said artwork and given the authorization to use it. My silence on this matter was due to the production house needing time to complete the corrective process, which it now has. I strongly believe that the rights of all artists must be protected and upheld at all times and would like to personally apologize for this oversight.”.
