In a terrorist case brought against PTI Chairman Imran Khan for threatening remarks made toward Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry and the Islamabad police commanders, the IHC on Monday ordered the quashing of portions related to terrorism. The case was heard today by a two-judge panel comprising of IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Saman Rifat. The terror case against Imran Khan stems from his threats against Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry and the heads of the Islamabad police. An Islamabad ATC extended Khan’s transit bail till September 20 on September 12.

Following his remarks at an Islamabad rally last month, Imran Khan was charged under Section 7 of Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Act (which specifies punishments for terrorist crimes). At the PTT protest in F-9 park, the FIR made those remarks. In his speech, Imran “terrorised and intimidated top police personnel and a respected female extra sessions judge.” The statements made by the PTI chairman concerning the female judge and the Islamabad police officials were included in the FIR. The proceedings of today. CJ Athar Minallah questioned the opinion of the multi-agency probe group (JIT).

In response to the inquiry, the prosecutor repeated that the JIT agrees that the relevant parts of the ATA apply to the comments made by the ex-prime minister. But Imran Khan’s legal counsel argued back, stating that the evidence lacked the “fundamental ingredients” necessary to support terrorism charges.

He explained that “a terror lawsuit can be launched for establishing an atmosphere of fear and horror,” not on the prospect of creating such an atmosphere. He claimed that Imran Khan had suggested filing a lawsuit against an inspector general and deputy inspector general, notwithstanding his belief that the two officials were responsible for initiating the process.
