Asia’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, isn’t careful about spending for his son Ananat Amabni’s wedding ceremony, which is happening this month. Bill Gates Mark Zuckerberg and Rihanna showed their presence on the pre-wedding bash.
This wedding should be one of the most costly in history but don’t forget the standard which has been set high by his sister Isha Amban, Vanish Mittal and Princess Diana, whose wedding expenses were millions.
Asia’s richest businessman, Indian tycoon Mukesh Ambani, is sparing no expense for the upcoming nuptials of his youngest heir, Anant Ambani and his long-time fiancee Radhika Merchant.
Weddings start in March this year, the start of the wedding is celebrated by throwing a long weekend pre-wedding lavish party in Jamnagar India with a star-studded guest list that includes global leaders like Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg and Rihanna. Private jets are provided to guests for coming, then presented with different dishes cooked by 100 chefs. The pre-wedding party was illuminated with Rihanna and Indian Diljit performances.
The total three-day event cost Ambanus US$100 million and the couple are not even married yet. The actual wedding date is July 12, and the Ambani flair for over-the-top weddings.
Here are six of the most lavish and costly weddings ever, ranked by what they cost back then and what they would have cost now after accounting for inflation, ahead of the much-awaited Ambani nuptials.
Vanisha Mittal and Amit Bhatia
Vanisha Mittal daughter of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, a billionaire and one of India’s wealthiest men, reportedly had spent US$55 million on her daughter’s wedding. The wedding spanned six days and is considered the most expensive wedding ever officially recorded, Although Forbes estimated spending on the wedding was US$60.
In 2004 Vanisha became engaged to Amit Bhatia, a British businessman, in a grand ceremony held at the Palace of Versailles in France. The event was followed by dinner at the famous Jardin des Tuileries. Kylie Minogue reportedly received US$330,000 for her 30-minute performance, which she even gave in front of fireworks at the Eiffel Tower. According to Financial Express, the real wedding was a star-studded event hosted at the 17th-century Chateau Vaux le Vicomte.
Brahmani Reddy and Rajeev Reddy
Another lavish wedding in history that made headlines was that of Brahmani Reddy, the only daughter of Indian mining tycoon Gali Janardhana Reddy, in 2016. The five-day wedding cost an estimated US$74 million. The wedding happened in a royal palace and featured Brazilian dancers.
Guest got invitations through personalized LCD screens and ate with utensils crafted of pure gold and silver. Many in India criticized the wedding because Indians people didn’t have money to buy food because the government attempted to tackle tax evasion.
Chantini Toor and Seemanto Roy; Richa Ahuja and Sushanto Roy
Subrata Roy the founder of Sahara, one of the largest conglomerates, threw a lavish double wedding for his two sons, Seemanto and Sushanto Roy, in 2004.
This six-day wedding event was attended by some 11,000 guests, including some of India’s biggest celebrities. The wedding festivities cost approximately US$74 million at that time.
Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal
According to The Straits Times, the Ambani family spent around US$100 million on Isha Ambani, the daughter of Mukesh Ambani, and Anand Piramal, the executive director of Piramal Group, at their 2018 wedding.
Sheikhs Hind Bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum and Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum
The wedding of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to his first wife (and first cousin) Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum was reportedly a US$45 million affair.
The wedding happened in 1979, during his wedding events sheikh issued a five-day holiday in the Emirates.
Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles
The royal wedding between Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1981 was considered the “wedding of the century”. Witnessed personally by over 3,000 people and broadcast to 750 million TV viewers across 74 countries, the US$48 million wedding – per Person – saw the “People’s Princess” chauffeured to the wedding in the royals’ Glass Coach.
