Jaishankar Disputes Trump Nobel Claim on India-Pakistan Peace
Jaishankar Rejects Trump’s Claim About India-Pakistan Peace Talks
India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar is visiting the United States for three days to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting. While there, he gave an interview to Newsweek.
After the interview, someone asked him if former U.S. President Donald Trump helped reduce tensions between India and Pakistan by using trade talks.
Jaishankar clearly said that Trump’s claim was not true. Instead, he said it was U.S. Vice President JD Vance who warned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about a possible big attack from Pakistan.
“I was there in the room when Vice President Vance told Prime Minister Modi, on the night of May 9, that Pakistan might attack us badly if we didn’t agree to certain things,” Jaishankar said. “That same night, Pakistan did launch a massive attack on us.”
Trump Says He Deserves Nobel Peace Prize
Earlier, Donald Trump had told the media that he should get the Nobel Peace Prize for helping bring peace between India and Pakistan.
While speaking in New Jersey, Trump said the Nobel Committee gives the prize only to “liberals” and ignores his peace efforts in countries like Rwanda, Congo, Serbia, Kosovo, and especially India and Pakistan.
“I should have won it four or five times,” Trump said.
