Kane outshines after his surprise injury return against West Brom

Kane returned ahead of schedule from ankle problems to help end Spurs’ three-game losing streak; with his 208th Tottenham goal drawing the England captain level alongside Bobby Smith and behind only Jimmy Greaves in Spurs’ all-time scoring list.
Kane’s goal was his 13th in the Premier League this season; taking him ahead of strike partner Son Heung-min for all of four minutes until the South Korea striker sealed Spurs’ victory with an emphatic finish from Lucas Moura’s pass.

Kane’s opener means he has now scored 208 goals in 317 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham; making him the joint-second highest scorer in the club’s history alongside Bobby Smith, who had exactly the same record.

It means the England captain is now 58 strikes short of Tottenham’s all-time record scorer Jimmy Greaves, who hit 266 goals in 379 appearances between 1961 and 1970.

Kane’s strike also continued his fine record against newly-promoted sides. The 27-year-old has now scored in 13 of his last 15 Premier League appearances against such opposition, including each of the last six.

He is the first player to manage that feat since Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah between January and December 2018.

The victory moved the Spurs up two places to seventh; four points off the Champions League places; although that position and gap could change later on Sunday with Chelsea and Liverpool in action.
Tottenham visits Everton in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday; before traveling to leaders Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
