Kingsley Coman undergoes heart surgery at 25

Following the discovery of an irregularity; the France international underwent a minor operation and will now rest for 10 to two weeks.

Coman came on as a late substitute in Tuesday’s 3-0 Champions League victory over Barcelona.
Head coach Julian Nagelsmann said: “He had a slightly irregular heartbeat; a minor heart irregularity. We did a long-term ECG and carried out this operation.

Nagelsmann told the press on Friday; “Kingsley Coman underwent surgery yesterday.

“His heartbeat rhythm had a slight disturbance with a minor added beat. At times he had a slight shortage of breath.

“That’s why we opted for long-term ECG monitoring and went ahead with this procedure.

“He will be doing cardio training again on Tuesday and won’t be out of action for any more than one and a half to two weeks.”

The 25-year-old will miss Bayernnext games against Bochum and Furth in the Bundesliga and potentially the next Champions League group game at home to Dynamo Kiev.

A number of footballers have undergone minor heart surgery in recent years, including former Manchester United star Michael Carrick.

Coman has not been fitted with an Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) heart-starting device like Inter star and Denmark international Christian Eriksen, who collapsed on the pitch during Euro 2020.

Coman has won a bucket load of trophies with the German side, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus, including ten league titles.

He was part of the France squad at Euro 2016 and Euro 2020 but arguably the pinnacle of his career came in the 2020 Champions League final where he scored the winning goal for Bayern against former club PSG.
