Ikhtiar Wali Warns of Massive Flood Tragedy in KP

Ikhtiar Wali Paints Grim Picture of Flood Devastation in KP

PESHAWAR – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ikhtiar Wali has described the floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a catastrophe of unprecedented scale, saying entire villages have been wiped off the map.

Speaking on program Aiteraz Hai, Wali said he had personally visited several flood-hit areas and witnessed widespread destruction.

“Entire villages have been erased. In Buner’s Chagharzi, the devastation is massive, while Bashoni village has disappeared completely,” he recounted.

He described how enormous rocks, “bigger than trucks,” were swept down by raging floodwaters, destroying houses along riverbanks. “Whole families have been carried away, with no one left behind even to report them,” he added.

Wali warned that the actual death toll is far higher than official figures, as only the bodies brought to hospitals are being counted. “So far, around 300 bodies have been reported, but in Dir alone, deaths could surpass 1,000, while more than a thousand people remain missing,” he claimed.

Calling it a human tragedy, he revealed that mass burials are already taking place. “I have returned from Buner with a heavy heart after seeing this disaster with my own eyes,” he said.

Meanwhile, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 323 people have lost their lives and 156 have been injured in various incidents across the province. Among the dead are 263 men, 29 women, and 21 children. The injured include 123 men, 23 women, and 10 children.

The PDMA report also confirmed that 336 houses were damaged, with 320 partially damaged and 160 destroyed.
