Nissan will produce electric versions of the Juke and Qashqai in the UK

Nissan Motor Co., a Japanese automaker, is scheduled to make an announcement on Friday regarding the construction of electric Qashqai and Juke models at its Sunderland, Northern England, facility. This information was first revealed on Wednesday by Sky News.

According to Sky, Nissan would invest hundreds of millions of pounds on the initiative, citing sources in the automobile sector. The report also stated that the British government is expected to offer guarantees, even though there will be no upfront taxpayer funding involved.

The Financial Times separately claimed, citing persons briefed on the plans, that Nissan will construct two new electric models at the facility as part of an investment estimated to be worth more than 1 billion pounds ($1.25 billion).

Nissan’s Japanese representative declined to comment on the reports. The third-largest carmaker in Japan announced in September that the Sunderland facility will produce one of the two new electric vehicles it has already confirmed for Europe.

According to the FT, Nissan Chief Executive Makoto Uchida was expected to make the news on Friday, and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was expected to be there.
