Pakistan Sees Sharp Rise in Inflation in September 2025
ISLAMABAD – Inflation in Pakistan surged in September 2025, nearly doubling compared to the previous month, according to the latest report from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The monthly inflation rate jumped 2.6 percent in September, reversing the 0.6 percent decline recorded in August.
Urban areas experienced a steeper rise, with Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation climbing 5.5 percent in September, up from 3.4 percent in August. Rural regions also saw higher inflation, with prices increasing 5.8 percent year-on-year, compared to a 2.4 percent rise in the previous month.
The report showed food prices rose by 4.4 percent, while non-food items saw a 6 percent increase. The Ministry of Finance had earlier projected a price increase of 3.5 to 4.5 percent for September.
Overall, average prices increased by 4.22 percent from July to September, marking the first three months of the fiscal year.
