Pakistan will not open negotiations with India unless New Delhi rolls back its decision on Kashmir; Imran.

Imran Khan, Pakistan’s prime minister, said on Tuesday that Pakistan will not open negotiations with India. Until New Delhi rolls back its decision to Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.

On August 5, 2019, India revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370. It divides the state into two Union territories.

“Until India reverses its August 5 actions, the Pakistani government will not speak to India at all,” Khan said during a live broadcast session in answer to questions from the media.

Earlier in the day, foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi stated that no talks with India are happening at the moment. However, that talks could take place; if New Delhi reconsidered its stance on Kashmir and offered relief to the Kashmiri people.

“Jammu and Kashmir cannot be an internal issue of India as it is on the agenda of the UN and there are several Security Council resolutions on it,” he said while addressing news.

“Jammu and Kashmir cannot be an internal concern of India because it is on the UN agenda and has been the subject of many Security Council resolutions,” he said at a press conference in Islamabad.

India has stated consistently that Jammu and Kashmir are an integral part of the country, which is necessary to resolve its own issues. On contrary, Pakistan will not open negotiations with India until New Delhi rolls back its decision to Kashmir. New Delhi has expressed its desire for regular neighborly ties with Islamabad in an atmosphere free of fear, hatred, and aggression.

In August of this year, India declared the withdrawal of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. It divides the state into two union territories. India has asserted that the question surrounding Article 370 of the Indian Constitution is solely a domestic affair.

In February, however, the two countries agreed to maintain peace along the Line of Control. According to reports, competing officials have been communicating through back channels to defuse tensions.

Khan also addressed a number of domestic concerns. Furthermore, he defended the record of his administration, which took power in August 2018.
