PPP disputes rumors that Bilawal and Zardari are at odds
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) categorically rejected as “baseless” any allegations on Friday that suggested a rift between the party’s chairman, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, and his father, Asif Ali Zardari, the former president and co-chairman.
Reports surfaced that Bilawal had visited Dubai, and some speculated that he was upset with his father’s recent interview on a private news station. Express News published these rumors.
Asif Ali Zardari said in the interview that his son wasn’t “trained” enough in politics yet. This comment was made in answer to a query concerning Bilawal’s persistent criticism of seasoned politicians at political events, where he called on them to resign and give way so that Pakistan’s young could lead the country out of challenges.
While praising his son’s ability, Zardari emphasized his “lack of experience” in politics. Furthermore, he made it clear that in the future general elections, party tickets will only be issued by him in the end.
The prominent politician clarified that although Bilawal is the leader of “the PPP,” he also controls the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians, which is the party’s electoral extension.
PPP leader Syed Nasir Hussain Shah addressed the reports, saying they were unfounded and addressed the supposed divisions among the party leadership.
In his capacity as the PPP’s Deputy Secretary-General in Sindh, he emphasized that disagreements are a normal part of running a sizable democratic party, but he also cautioned against confusing dissent with strife.
Shah declared that reports of conflicts between Zardari and Bilawal were untrue and threatened to take legal action against individuals who disseminated false information.
He went on to say that Bilawal is in Dubai as per the itinerary and should be back before the party’s November 30 foundation day ceremony.
The former provincial minister went on to say that Bilawal is expected to speak at a big event on the same day in Quetta in observance of the party’s founding anniversary
