Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh , taken to London hospital

PHILIP

Prince Philip, the 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth, has been taken to a London hospital after feeling unwell; according to a Buckingham Palace press release.

The palace said that Prince Phillip was admitted to the private King Edward VII Hospital on Tuesday evening.

“His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London; on Tuesday evening,” the Wednesday release stated.

The Buckingham Palace press release added: “The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure; on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell.

“The Duke is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days of observation and rest,” it added.

Palace sources also stress that this was not an emergency admission and that Philip walked into the hospital unaided.

Philip, who will turn 100 in June, has been plagued by health issues in recent years.

In 2011, he was rushed to a hospital by helicopter after suffering chest pains and treated for a blocked coronary artery. In 2017, he spent two nights in the King Edward VII hospital and was hospitalized for 10 days in 2018 for a hip replacement.

He was hospitalized in December 2019 in relation to a “pre-existing condition,” according to the palace at the time.

He abruptly canceled his appearance at the traditional Maundy church service; that he was scheduled to attend with the monarch in March 2018.

Philip also skipped Easter Sunday services that year ahead of the announcement that he underwent hip replacement surgery.

During England’s current coronavirus lockdown, he has been staying at Windsor Castle, west of London, with the queen.

The couple both received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine in January 2021.
