Sexually abused woman commits suicide in Bahawalpur

A girl in Bahawalpur has committed suicide after a boy tried to rape her while working in the fields.

According to details in the Khairpur Tamiwali area of Bahawalpur 18-year old girl has committed suicide after an obscene young man tried to rape her and the police did not arrest the accused.

Upon learning of the incident, DPO Bahawalpur Sohaib Ashraf immediately registered a case and arrested the SHO, investigating officer, reader of the police station along with the accused.

The father of the victim, Tahira Bibi, told the media that her daughter had gone to mow the fields with her mother and brother yesterday. When she was away from her family, Luqman, an obscene young man from a settlement hiding in the fields, tried to rape her.

At the noise of the girl, people working in other fields with her mother and brother came for her rescue and accused Luqman managed to escape.

When they went to the local police station after the incident, the SHO and the investigating officers showed the traditional indifference.

The officer told her the investigation officer wasn’t present. When she returned later another officer told her to come back another time. After weeks of going to the police station with her father and getting sent back, the girl drank poison.

After her death, the police lodged a case and arrested the man.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the incident and summoned a report.

According to the family, Tahira Bibi was sitting at home in a state of despair at 10 pm when she went to the bathroom and drank the poison and told her father that she would no longer be a disgrace to him.

Tahira Bibi was shifted to Bhawal Victoria Hospital where she died today. DPO Bahawalpur has arrested SHO, investigating officer, and muharar of the police station at which she complained.

An FIR has been registered in the incident.
