Famous Urdu Scholar Shamim Hanafi dies at 81
Urdu Author, Critic, Dramatist and a proponent of modernist Urdu literature; Shamim Hanafi dies at 81 giving in to coronavirus in New Delhi.
Urdu world is at a loss of words by this huge hiatus; created by Shamim Hanafi’s demise. Who is one of the most famous and respected; literary critics, playwrights and poets of the subcontinent.
Hanafi; received laurels for his writings and plays. Received the “International award for promotion of Urdu literature” in January 2021 from the Majlis-e-Frogh-e-Urdu Adab.
Some of his literary works include; Jadīdiyyat kī falsafiyānah asās (The Philosophical foundation of modernism), Naʼī shiʻrī rivāyat (New poetic tradition), Tārīk̲h̲, tahzīb aur tak̲h̲līqī tajarbah.
Most Importantly he also served as a patron for Jashn-e-Adab and the Rekhta

A few days back; Hanafi got tested positive for covid-19 and his daughter Ghazala Siddique had called out for help regarding oxygen support. This message was delivered; by Dr Syed Naseer Hussain on his Twitter account.

The largest festival celebrating the Urdu language and culture, Jashn-e-Rekhta, paid tribute to the late legend with a video of him at their panel in 2015. “Phir laut ke is bazm mein aane ke nahin hain”.
