UN to Discuss Gaza Hostages After Shocking Videos
UN to Hold Emergency Meeting About Gaza Hostages
UNITED NATIONS – Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, says the UN Security Council will meet on Tuesday to talk about the situation of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
The decision came after new videos showed two Israeli hostages looking very thin and weak. The videos also mention how bad the humanitarian situation is in Gaza. UN experts have warned that people in Gaza are facing famine.
Israel has blocked much of the aid from entering Gaza. Even when aid is allowed, some of it gets looted or lost, and many Palestinians risk their lives trying to get help.
On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked the Red Cross to send food to the hostages.
Hamas replied by saying they will let the Red Cross visit the hostages only if food and aid are allowed to enter all parts of Gaza. Hamas said they are not trying to starve the hostages, but cannot give them special food while everyone else is also suffering.
In the past few days, Hamas and Islamic Jihad have shared three videos of hostages taken during the October 7, 2023, attack. The videos showed Rom Braslavski and Evyatar David, both looking weak and malnourished. These images have led to new calls in Israel for a ceasefire and a hostage deal.
