HEC alerts students about Fake Educational News

Islamabad: The Higher Education Commission announced this Thursday about the fake news propagated using its name on social media. HEC alerted the students and faculty members about false information circulating through WhatsApp and social media forums by anti-education groups.

Initiation

The problem initiated with the circulation of some fake news over WhatsApp and other social media platforms. This news consisted of photo-shopped images designed by some persons pushing anti-education agendas. These images look like screenshots of the HEC website, but are just other edited content of the website.

HEC alerts about false news

The reports commonly show a lowering of educational standards in Pakistan; for example, cancellation of exams, cancellation of educational activities including online classes, or disrupting admissions or scholarship processes.

HEC’s Response

The higher education commission clarified that contrary to some news report, the website has not been hacked. In addition, they advised students and faculty staff to verify any HEC-related information from its authentic website www.hec.gov.pk. Moreover, in a recent tweet they declared that verified information would only be available on its official Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts.


Furthermore, they mentioned the verified accounts by replying to the tweet


Firstly, we should not believe in any news sent through social media platforms. Secondly, we must confirm all news from the authentic platform listed above. As a result, no one will be mislead to any false or misleading news.
